“The energy generator of the solar system, a modest yellow dwarf, which, in its modesty, transforms 4 million tons of matter into energy every second, and which is brighter than 85% of the stars in the Milky Way, was born 4.6 billion years ago as a result of the gravitational collapse of a molecular cloud.
The Sun has captivated our imagination, perhaps even before we developed bipedal walking, and who knows, perhaps we became vulnerable by adopting this new behavior simply to admire the celestial path of its Majesty. We wouldn’t even have eyes without light, as they would have no purpose, nor would we have warmth or color. We wouldn’t be human, and there would be no Art without the Sun.
From Icarus to the present day, humanity has made consistent efforts to conquer the sun and understand the dual nature of light—both particle and wave. The first artistic revolution was, in part, due to Amenhotep IV’s fascination with the solar disc, and it led to the emergence of the ancestors of caricature, as evidenced in the limestone profiles at Tell-el-Amarna. Giordano Bruno, too, perished at the stake for his thoughts on the stars, and Copernicus shook humanity to its core by replacing geocentrism with heliocentrism—a collective trauma we still carry with us, displacing us from the center to the periphery of the universe.
Sol Invictus (Unconquered Sun) symbolized the state of grace of the telluric elements, which alchemists would knead in crucibles, wander through sweet retorts, and bake in the athanor, yearning for immortality—until Jung, through his theses, managed to demystify alchemy, showing us that Ars Magna is a metaphor for the search for the Self, for subconscious dives, while Sol Invictus symbolizes the seed of the divine, the inner sun. From our inner small, hot, and mortal shining suns, we extract the elementals of Art, the most effective form of healing, salvation and transcendence into Eternity. Through Art, we are making ourselves immortal. ”Generatorul de energie al sistemului solar, o modestă pitică galbenă, dar care în modestia ei, transformă într-o secundă 4 milioane de tone de materie în energie și care este mai strălucitoare decât 85 % dintre stelele Căii Lactee a luat naștere acum 4.6 miliarde de ani, fiind rezultanta colapsului gravitațional al unui nor molecular. Soarele ne-a captivat imaginația, posibil înainte de a dezvolta mersul biped și cine știe, dacă nu cumva, ne-am vulnerabilizat, adoptând acest nou comportament, tocmai pentru a admira traseul celest al Majestății Sale. Nici ochi n-am fi avut fără lumină, că nu ar fi avut vreun sens și nici căldură ori culoare. Nu eram oameni și n-aveam Artă fără Soare.
De la Icar și până în prezent, umanitatea a depus eforturi consistente încercând să cucerească soarele și să înțeleagă natura duală a luminii – corpuscul și undă în același timp. Giordano Bruno tot pentru sori a ars pe rug, iar Copernicus a zguduit din temelii umanitatea, înlocuind geocentrismul cu heliocentrismul, o traumă colectivă pe care încă o purtăm cu noi și care ne-a strămutat din centru, la periferia Universului.
Sol Invictus (Unconquered Sun) reprezenta starea de grație a teluridelor pe care alchimiștii le frâmântau în creuzete, le hoinăreau prin dulci retorte și le coceau în athanor, tânjind astfel la nemurire, până când Jung a reușit, prin tezele sale, să dezvrăjească alchimia demonstrându-ne că Ars Magna este metafora căutărilor de Sine, a plonjărilor subconștiente iar Sol Invictus simbolizează sămânța dumnezeiască, soarele interior.
Din sorii noștri mici, fierbinți și muritor strălucitori extragem noi elementalii Artei, cea mai eficientă formă de vindecare, de salvare și transmigrare întru Eternitate. Prin Artă, noi, ne naștem pe noi înșine nemuritori. Materiile artei și mediile sale de manifestare sunt cronotopuri ale nemuririi, iar artistul este alchimistul care întoarce umanității, prin creațiile sale, imaginea mentalității colective reușind, astfel, să înghețe timpul și să ne oprească efemera trecere prin lume.
Selecția propune celebrarea artei contemporane românești la acest sfârșit de ciclu solar și oferă privitorilor perspective artistice cu densitate metafizică, care stimulează atât contemplarea relației dintre Lumină și Creație cât și oportunitatea de a reflecta asupra unor subiecte complexe printre care puterea transformatoare a artei, potențialul de creștere colectivă prin expresie creativă, valențele metafizice ale căutării de sine prin intermediul actului artistic” extras din textul curatorial.
